London’s premier FTSE 100 index opened the new year at a record high, passing the 10,000 mark for the first time.
Miners and defense stocks spurred the index–which gained 22% last year–on to its latest high, as Fresnillo gained 3.5% while Rolls-Royce climbed 3%.
The two sectors were key to the FTSE’s strong performance throughout 2025, AJ Bell’s head of markets Dan Coatsworth says.
