Surface Solutions Group (SSG), a company specialising in functional coating technologies for medical devices, has announced its entry into Costa Rica.
The business will set up a new operation focused on high-precision and advanced manufacturing processes for the international medical industry.
SSG develops low-friction, high-performance coating processes used on components including guidewires, electrosurgical blades, cannulas, needles, and hypotubes. These processes will utilise automated machinery and stringent quality controls, adhering to regulatory standards required by major global markets.
The project involves a long-term investment of more than $10m, which covers land acquisition and the construction of a dedicated facility.
Construction is planned to start in early 2026. Operations will gradually commence in 2027 after equipment installation and completion of validation and qualification procedures.
SSG operates as part of Elektrisola Group, which has more than 60 years of experience in wire solutions and specialised coatings, including over 20 years in applications for the medical device sector.
When operations begin, SSG expects to create 15 to 20 jobs. Recruitment will target roles such as automated equipment operators, engineers, maintenance technicians, and coating personnel (sprayers and rackers), as well as executive and administrative staff suitable for advanced production processes.
SSG’s investment will contribute to the development of Costa Rica’s life sciences sector, which has seen an increase in projects requiring advanced technical capabilities and regulatory compliance.
SSG president Kevin Hess said: “Costa Rica represents a strategic decision for SSG. It allows us to be closer to key customers, collaborate early on in new developments, and scale coating technologies with greater agility and precision.
“The country offers a solid production environment and a talent base that understands the standards of the medical device industry.”
“SSG to establish medical coatings facility in Costa Rica” was originally created and published by Medical Device Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
