At a recent American Enterprise Institute event, Marsden Hanna, Google’s global head of sustainability and climate policy, identified U.S. electrical transmission as the primary obstacle to expanding AI-focused data centers.
Hanna revealed that one utility told Google it would take 12 years just to study the interconnection timeline. “Transmission barriers are the number one challenge we’re seeing on the grid,” Hanna stated.
