Global energy technology firm SLB has secured two five-year contracts from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), strengthening its role in one of the Middle East’s most strategically important upstream provinces as Oman looks to maximize recovery from mature assets while building domestic industrial capacity.
SLB told Oilprice.com that under this agreement, it will supply wellheads and artificial lift systems for operations in Block-6, Oman’s largest oil and gas concession and the backbone of the country’s hydrocarbon production. The awards underscore PDO’s continued focus on advanced recovery technologies and in-country value (ICV) as it works to sustain output from aging reservoirs.
SLB will deliver a full portfolio of wellhead systems—including low-pressure, high-pressure, and thermal solutions—alongside electric submersible pumps (ESPs) and progressive cavity pumps (PCPs). The technologies are designed to boost recovery rates, extend field life, and improve operational efficiency across Block-6, where complex geology and declining natural pressure make artificial lift increasingly critical.
A central component of the contracts is localization. Wellheads will be manufactured at SLB’s Rusayl production center, while ESPs will be assembled, repaired, and tested at the company’s Nizwa facility, supporting hundreds of Omani jobs. Within six months of contract commencement, SLB plans to introduce made-in-Oman gate valve production, further expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities.
The company will also deploy advanced solutions such as its 15k SOLIDrill modular compact wellhead system, real-time ESP surveillance technologies, and permanent magnet motors for ESPs. These systems reduce power consumption and downtime—an increasingly important consideration as Oman balances energy efficiency with rising production demands.
“These awards reflect our deep commitment to Oman’s energy future and advancing in-country value through local manufacturing and talent development,” said Jesus Lamas, president of SLB Middle East and North Africa.
The contracts come as Oman intensifies efforts to sustain oil output above one million barrels per day through enhanced oil recovery, digitalization, and partnerships with global service providers. For SLB, the awards reinforce its position as a long-term technology partner in a region where maximizing mature assets is becoming as important as new discoveries.
