Progroup and Akarton begin collaboration at Schüttorf site

-

Progroup has established a partnership with Akarton for operations at its Schüttorf packaging park in Germany, located next to the PW05 corrugated sheetfeeder plant.

This arrangement comes after Progroup’s previous partnership at the site concluded, making the neighbouring hall available for new collaboration.

The facilities are directly linked, allowing Akarton to undertake further processing on-site.

According to Progroup, this move reinstates the full value chain at Schüttorf and reinforces connections with independent packaging manufacturers.

The company notes that co-locating production and processing brings several operational advantages. These include a consistent supply of corrugated board sheets, quicker turnaround times, improved supply dependability and potentially reduced carbon emissions due to reduced transport requirements.

The proximity of the two facilities is expected to streamline workflows, offer more production flexibility and decrease logistics costs by reducing vehicle movements between sites.

In August 2025, Progroup’s corrugated sheetfeeder factory in Cessalto, Italy, started regular production.

The automated plant has a running speed of 400 metres per minute and a working width of 3.35 metres.

It is designed to manufacture lightweight corrugated board sheets with an emphasis on resource efficiency.

The plant’s annual capacity stands at around 200,000 tonnes and was completed within both scheduled deadlines and set budgets, according to the company.

Headquartered in Landau, Germany, Progroup is among Europe’s largest producers of containerboard and corrugated sheetboard.

Established in 1991, the company operates production facilities across six Central European countries.

As of August 2025, its operations include three paper mills, 14 corrugated sheetboard plants, a logistics company, and two waste-to-energy power stations.

“Progroup and Akarton begin collaboration at Schüttorf site” was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.
